Student’s Resource Development Secretariat (SRDS)

The Student Resource and Development Secretariat (SRDS) is a student unit under the MSU that looks into the training and welfare of students who pursue higher learning in Islamic Studies overseas.

Background

Our students pursue Islamic related studies in various institutions overseas. They take up subjects ranging from Shari'ah (Islamic Jurisprudence, Fiqh and Usul Fiqh), Usuluddin (Tafsir, Hadith, Aqidah & Philosophy, comparative religion), Arabic language & literature to Law and economics and Human sciences (e.g. Sociology, psychology, political science, history, mass communication).

Objectives

SRDS is set up to:

  • To help develop quality Islamic scholars that will meet Singapore's needs.
  • To undertake manpower and resource planning for religious graduates.
  • To attend to the welfare and well being of the students overseas.

Target Audience

SRDS aims to support students who are currently pursuing Islamic education overseas (or who are planning to do so).

Services, Roles and Responsibilities

In meeting its objectives, SRDS provides its services at the following points of the students' education overseas:

  • Pre-Departure
  • During the Overseas Study
  • Upon Graduation
  • Student Liaison Officer

Pre-Departure

  • Provides information to potential students on educational institutions and the countries.
  • Issues the No Objection letter.
  • Plans, administers and facilitates developmental programs such as pre-departure courses (for details on the Pre-departure Programme 2006, click here)

During Overseas Study

  • Develops and conducts orientation programs and counseling.
  • Assists students' welfare and well-being.
  • Co-ordinates Community & Industrial Attachments during the students' vacation.

Upon Graduation

  • Assists in career counseling.
  • Organises orientation programme for returned students.

Student Liaison Officer

A Student Liaison Officer (SLO) is appointed to look into the needs of the students in the Middle East, Northern Africa and Indo-Pakistan regions in particular.

The SLO takes on these tasks:

  • Establishes contacts with students in Middle East, Africa and Indo-Pakistan
  • Provides information and advice to students
  • Looks into the welfare and development of students and
  • Advises MUIS about courses of studies in these regions.
